NEW INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM LAUNCHED

FROM STUDIO TO STAGE: REVITALIZING THE HUMPHREY CANON

DORIS HUMPHREY INSTITUTE

The mission of the Doris Humphrey Institute is to bring together those individuals and institutions who wish to participate in the regeneration of the Humphrey oeuvre and to actively engage these persons in the power and responsibility of maintaining this tradition through education, workshops, director training and performance.

The DHI will launch June 21–July 2, 2009 and will be presented in collaboration with the official Doris Humphrey Foundation for Dance and Goucher College. Serving on the preparatory committee are Charles Humphrey Woodford (Humphrey’s son), Humphrey-trained dance editor Barbara Palfy, Labanotation expert Billie Mahoney, Jeanne Bresciani (Isadora Duncan International Institute) Ph.D., Andrea M Seidel, Ph.D., Beth Hartle (program director at the museum), Mary Di Santo-Rose Ed.D. and others.

Mino Nicolas is the Executive Director of the newly formed DHI. He is the founder and former artistic director of the internationally acclaimed Doris Humphrey Repertory Dance Company and the sole largest presenter of the Humphrey works. He has performed, staged and directed Humphrey’s works for over three decades and currently maintains rights to the entire Humphrey catalog as well as co-ownership of eleven of her works
